Sunset of Life
Another challenge photo from Different Strokes from Different Strokes blog. The purpose of the challenge was to be able to paint the human form’s weight – depict the sense of the weight of the body in the pose they are in. I felt successful in that aspect of this painting. The elbow gave me trouble to get it to ‘lie down’ but I think I finally did it and am happy with the relaxed feel of the forearm and hand, and right leg; it’s more difficult than you might think!
I found myself feeling empathy with him, maybe dreaming of being by the sea instead of at work at this stage of life, the sunset years. I put this up for sale on my eBay store, even though it’s not a great painting because proceeds will support dog and parrot rescue organizations.

About.com Challenge

Another challenge on About.com: Painting. September’s project was to paint in miniature, less than 5 x 5 inches. This was my submission, and although mini, I’m counting as one of my 100 First Paintings! It gave rise to the next painting, which, it turns out, is my FIRST PAINTING SOLD! Scroll down to see the 6 x 6 version.
